Q: Do you have a list of Kosher items in the cafe? A: Absolutely, the list is longer than you think! We're happy to provide anyone with Kosher information as well as Dietary information, Allergy related information, and Vegan/Vegetarian Options available. Contact mvincell@richmond.edu for more information.
Q: Do you cater any events/ Can i buy coffee in a large quantity for a group? A: Absolutely! While we don't deliver, we do have coffee and tea to go containers that hold 96 ounces of liquid. This works out to be about 8 tall (12 ounce cups). You can order as many "coffee boxes" as you want, but please keep in mind, the more you order, the more time it will take. Each coffee to go box comes with 8 cups (lids and sleeves if needed) stir sticks, cream, napkins, an assortment of sugar, honey if you get tea, and a trash bag for your convenience. A day's notice is great- but a couple hours will do in a pinch. (contact info to the right of your screen) If you e-mail, please make sure you get a confirmation e-mail or call to confirm your order.
Q: Can I reserve the cafe for a meeting or class? A: Because the cafe is a small public space, we do not reserve tables or chairs.
Q: Can I use my friend's Spidercard? A: Because the University has a policy to not allow people to use other people's spidercards, we follow that procedure here as well. Credit Cards that aren't signed are also not valid, and we do ask for ID when your credit card says, "ask for ID."
Q: Can I use my Starbucks Card? A: Because we're not technically a Starbucks Franchise, we do not accept starbucks cards or gift certificates.
Q: I saw a sticker on my cup, advertising an event. How do I get my organization on there? A: We are currently under contract with another department on campus that advertises on our sleeves untill further notice. For further information- don't hesitate to contact us!
Q: Can I put a flyer in the window? A: Sorry! While the cafe cares about what is going on around the UR community, the windows are not a bulletin board. You can contact student activities, or follow the guidlines about flyers in the rest of the library or on campus.
Q: Can I do a fundraiser in the Cafe? A: 8:15 at Boatwright and the University of Richmond Dining Services team support many local and national causes. But because we have such limited space, setting up tables or having a large group in here for a long period of time could be a fire hazzard. Contact the student activities board, and they can point you in the right direction.
Q: If I bring my own cup in, do i get a discounted price? A: If you purchace regular brewed coffee of the day, iced coffee, or Regular Iced tea and bring any cup back, you can get a refill for a discounted price, but we do not offer personal cup discounts.
Q: Will you help me with my project on business/cafes/etc? A: We will do anything we can to help! We do not release information on pricing, and revenue, but we're glad to help in any other way.
Q: How do I suggest a new product? A: E-mail us! We're always interested in your ideas!
Q: What are your slow periods of the day? A: The best times to come to the cafe would probably be very early in the morning, or during a time where the majority of students are in class, eating, or sleeping. (so 7:30am-9am, noon-2:30, 4pm-9pm) The times between classes tend to get busy in here just because everyone comes at the same time. I would say during the day the busiest times would be, 9-9:30am, 10:30am-noon, 3-4pm, & between the hours of 10pm and Midnight- especially if we're close to a midterm or exam.
Q: How do I get through the line faster? A: Knowing exactly what you want and how to order is a great way to minimize your wait in line. While you're waiting, its a good idea to "rehearse" your order before you get to the front. We spend a lot of time just asking questions to people who don't know what they want, or aren't specific enough. If you're getting a bagel, think about what kind, what you want on it, and if you're getting anything else from the bake case. If you're getting coffee, choose light or dark and if you want room or not. If you're getting espresso, make sure to try to answer all the questions on the "Help me coffee girl" section of this web site. And make sure to speak up!! there is a lot going on back here!
Q: I love free coffee, can I have a job? A: We hire throughout the year- mostly at the beginning and end of each semester. fill out this application, and bring it by today!
Q: Where do you get your pastries? A: You'll be happy to know that we sell all natural bagels and pastries made in bakeries here in Richmond and DC.
Q: How is 8:15 at Boatwright becoming more green? A: We've been getting more and more green each year we're open. When we first opened about 5 years ago, it was a struggle to get people to recycle! Now, we recycle an amazing 85 percent of our trash, use smaller to go bags for less waste, we keep daily records of wasted food, and constantly adjust food orders to reduce waste and keep customer cost down. We also offer incentive programs for people who bring their own cup, use post consumer recycled and recycleable cups and sleeves, offer bulk milk and cream at the condiment bar for less waste, and our plastic cups are recycleable. The Library also installed 2 new recycling containers for public use- so its convenient to recycle at the Library now. Behind the counter, we also use only CFL bulbs, turn down AC over the weekend when we're not open, reduce the number of deliveries we receive to cut fuel costs, have energy star appliances, keep filters for our fridges clean so they're more efficient, and turn off lights and machines when we're not using them.
